BEAUTY | MY MINIMAL ACNE MAKEUP ROUTINE

I absolutely love makeup, but I don't really wear that much on a day to day basis. I like to keep it minimal, so that I don't break out that much. Besides that I also have to deal with some acne scarring. Acne scars are the worst. They make me feel really insecure. And as much as I would like to conceal my scars as much as possible, it usually makes it worse. Because if I use too much concealer, I break out again and we're back to square one. So I have struggled quite a bit over the past few months to create a makeup routine that I am happy with, but also does not break me out. I feel like I have finally found the perfect routine right now and helps me feel a bit more confident.

It all starts with a minimal routine. Just like my minimal morning skincare routine, I find that if you put just the tiniest amount of makeup on your face, it also helps preventing you from breaking out again. So what I usually do is I start with some primer. I use the Too Faced Hangover primer. This primer is perfect for moisturizing and whenever I have some dry patches on my face from some older breakouts, this primer helps to put makeup on there, without the patch looking weird and dry. Then I just moisturize my lips, right now I am using the Nuxe Reve de Miel lip balm, which is extremely moisturizing.

Once the 'base' is on, I finally move on to putting actual makeup on. I start with my concealer to cover up the dark circles underneath my eyes. My dark circles, thankfully, aren't that bad. I am currently using the Bourjois City Radiance Reveal concealer in 02 beige. This is a really nice concealer, without giving me that cakey makeup feeling. I just put a little bit of this under my eyes and blend it with my fingers.

Then I move on to the base of my makeup. I used to use BB cream, but also found that liquid products broke me out. So right now I use mineral loose powders, that way, I still have some sort of coverage, without feeling all foundation-y throughout the day. I use the Laura Mercier Mineral Loose Powder in Real Sand all over my face with a powder brush. Then I move on to put a tiny bit of bronzer onto my face. The bronzer I am currently using is the NARS Laguna bronzer. I always go back to this bronzer, as it is the perfect bronzer shade for me!

Next I move on to brush through my brows with the Kiko Spoolie. I fill in my eyebrows with the hot cocoa shade from the Tanya Burr Cosmetics Perfect Brows palette. Then I curl my lashes with the Shisheido eyelash curler and put on my MAC liquid liner. I let that try for about 20 seconds, and them move on to my mascara. First up I use the Catrice Glam & Doll Volume mascara, and then I use the Too Faced Better than Sex mascara

And that's it. That's all I put on my face. This routine takes me about 10-15 minutes every day. It's pretty easy and straight forward, but it helps me prevent my acne, which is probably what is most important to me. Of course I am in no way a beauty expert and I might be doing things wrong. You might be judging me for putting on a mineral loose powder, but I really find that this helps me prevent having any other acne breakouts.

As you can see in this picture of my face, you might still see some of the scars through my makeup, but I am okay with that. Acne scar healing takes time, and I am more than willing to wait out that time. By not putting tons and tons of layers of makeup on, I noticed a difference in my skin too. Acne is something I still deal with on a day to day basis, but now that I found a routine I am comfortable with, I probably will stick to this for a longer time.

  1. I really like this post. The Too Faced primer is absolutely amazing. The Laguna bronzer has been on my wishlist for the longest time but I might be getting my ends on it VERY VERY soon!
